My dog had knee surgery due to a torn CCL and really was not able to walk or run for some time. He is a lab, so I thought maybe some swimming might help him out. I went through a number of toys; tri-bumber, frisbee, and several others. But, he really wouldn't take to any of them. I can't say why, but more than once he would go out to fetch and come back with a stick he found floating and absolutely refuse to go get the toy. More than a few toys were abandoned after long attempts to get him to retrieve them. The boomerang toy, though, he absolutely loves. He fetches every time and we spend half an hour to an hour almost every day at a local pond. His leg has improved enormously, and having a fun toy he loves to play with is a huge part of the reason why.
Our JRT mix loves this boomerang. We got him one before, and he has played with it and chewed on it until it is a nub. He was very excited to see that we bought him a new one. The only thing I will comment is that it is relatively easy for a super-chewer to chew bits off. That's a plus for our guy, who loves to tear things apart, but it may not be what you want to clean up on a regular basis!
My Rottweiler loves to boomerang. The ball in the middle only lasted a few months, but the boomerang is still going strong.
